Food Gives
Nateete is less than 10 kilometers (6 miles) from the capital. There is a new phenomena coined “urban poor”. This refers to people who dwell in close proximity to the city, yet live in poverty. This makes it an ideal place for slums to mushroom.
With most people living a life of hand-to-mouth, food is an ever present need. Many families opt for a single meal day. Jesus saw the crowds hunger and choose not to send them away. He gave them food. We give food too. The recent pandemic really tested our resilience on food giving, we had 22,000 families in need of food aid.
Our mobilization effort and our partners could only cover 1,500 families. We distributed to each family 10 kilograms (25 pounds) of maize flour and 5 kilograms (12 pounds) of beans. During that distribution we saw the need to provide fresh milk to the under fives.
Little did we know that this effort was so impactful the community leaders at local, the Mayor and Member of Parliament of the area wrote and delivered a thank you letter for this effort.
